December 27, 2024
Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a simple yet meaningful word that guides my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at The Boulevard Senior Living of St. Peters in St. Peters, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like a time to reset, refocus, and prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead. My chosen word becomes an anchor, influencing how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed by the profound impact this practice has had on my year.
The Word of the Year for 2024 was action. With our community opening, I knew it was time to dive in and make things happen. This word shaped my decisions, strengthened relationships, and fueled personal and professional growth. It reinforced the mindset that “the answer is always yes” while reminding me of the importance of balance. Taking action required not only forward momentum but also ensuring that I, along with my team, prioritized self-care. By filling our own cups, we could better achieve our shared goals.
This focus on action helped create a strong foundation for our community. It encouraged a proactive approach to problem-solving and inspired a culture of support and collaboration.
The lessons learned in 2024 will influence my goals for the year ahead. As we built momentum through action, it’s now time to sustain and grow upon that foundation. This shift leads to my Word of the Year for 2025: embrace.
My Word of the Year for 2025 is embrace. This word reflects my intention to welcome every experience—whether positive or challenging—with an open mind and heart. It encourages me to accept new opportunities, adapt to changes, and approach the future with curiosity and resilience. By embracing what comes, I aim to create an environment where growth and innovation thrive, both for myself and for our community.
As 2025 approaches, I am reflecting on the lessons of 2024 and looking forward to the possibilities that lie ahead. Choosing a Word of the Year is not about having all the answers. It’s about setting an intention and remaining open to the journey it inspires.
